Common stove and oven problems we fix

  • Oven not heating at all. On electric ovens, a burned-out bake or broil element (you can often see the break or a blister). On gas ovens, the igniter, which is the most common gas-oven failure by far.
  • Oven heats to the wrong temperature. A failed temperature sensor, or a control that needs recalibration. If your baking is suddenly off, this is usually why.
  • Burner or element will not heat. On electric coil tops, the element or the receptacle; on smooth tops, a radiant element or the control board; on gas, a clogged burner, a failed igniter, or a bad switch.
  • Gas burner clicks but will not light, or smells of gas. A dirty or wet igniter, or a burner cap out of place. If you smell gas strongly, shut off the supply and call.
  • Broiler not working but bake is fine (or vice versa). A single failed element or a relay on the control board.
  • Touchpad or knobs not responding. Control board or switch.
  • Self-clean cycle blew the oven out. A very common one: self-clean heat trips a thermal fuse or damages the control. We repair the aftermath and will tell you to skip self-clean next time.

What stove and oven repair costs in Winnipeg

Repair Typical range
Bake / broil element (electric) $160 to $320

Temperature sensor $150 to $280
Surface element / receptacle $150 to $300
Surface burner switch / igniter (gas) $150 to $320
Control board $250 to $450

Diagnostic service call typically $90 to $130, credited toward the repair when you proceed. See the cost page.

Repair or replace a stove or oven?

Ranges and ovens are long-lived, about 13 to 15 years, and most repairs are worth it. An element, igniter or sensor is inexpensive against the cost of a new range. The one repair that can tip toward replacement is a control board on a high-end or older unit at $250 to $450, especially if the cosmetics are also going. We give you the comparison honestly.

Gas or electric, we do both

Gas oven not heating is almost always the igniter, an affordable and common fix. Electric oven not heating is almost always a visible element. Smooth-top electric ranges are the ones where the diagnosis matters most, because a dead surface element and a failed control board look identical from the front and cost very differently, so we confirm before quoting.

Do this before you call

  • Electric oven dead: check the breaker, since a half-tripped 240V breaker can kill the oven while the clock still runs.
  • Gas oven not heating: confirm the gas supply is on and other burners light.
  • Note whether it is bake, broil, a specific burner, or temperature accuracy; each is a different part.
  • If you smell gas, do not troubleshoot. Shut off the supply, ventilate, and call.

Brands we repair

Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, Maytag, GE, Frigidaire, KitchenAid, Bosch, Kenmore, Amana, Electrolux and more, gas and electric, coil and smooth-top. See the brands page.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my oven not heating?

On an electric oven, a burned-out bake element (often visibly broken). On a gas oven, the igniter, which is the most common gas-oven failure. Both are affordable, typically $160 to $350.

Why is my oven cooking at the wrong temperature?

Usually a failed oven temperature sensor or a control that has drifted. It is an inexpensive fix and worth doing, since a 25 to 50 degree error ruins baking.

My gas burner clicks but won't light, why?

Usually a dirty or wet igniter or a burner cap seated wrong. Clean and dry it first; if it still will not light, the igniter or switch needs service. Strong gas smell means shut off the gas and call.

Is it worth repairing an oven?

Usually yes. Ranges last 13 to 15 years and elements, igniters and sensors are cheap relative to a new unit. A control board on an old range is the main exception.

Do you repair both gas and electric?

Yes, gas and electric stoves, ovens and ranges, including coil and smooth-top surfaces.
