Most appliance repair companies will not tell you a price until they are standing in your kitchen. That is the number one complaint people have about the whole trade. Here is what appliance repair actually costs in Winnipeg, laid out before you call, so there are no surprises. Every figure is a typical parts-and-labour range; your exact quote is confirmed before any work starts.

How the pricing works
There are two parts to any appliance repair bill:
- The diagnostic service call, typically $90 to $130 in Winnipeg. This covers the trip and the diagnosis. When you approve the repair, this fee is credited toward the total, so you are not paying twice.
- The repair itself, parts plus labour, quoted as a firm total once we know what is wrong. You approve that number before any work begins. No open-ended hourly meter, no surprise parts markup.
That is the whole model: a small fee to find out what is wrong, credited if you proceed, then one firm price you approve up front.
Typical repair cost by appliance
| Appliance | Typical repair range | Common lower-cost fix | Higher-end / replace-line fix |
|---|---|---|---|
| Refrigerator / freezer | $200 to $600 | defrost part, fan, valve | compressor / sealed system |
| Washer | $150 to $450 | drain pump, belt, switch | tub bearing |
| Dryer | $150 to $400 | element, fuse, belt, igniter | motor |
| Dishwasher | $150 to $400 | drain pump, valve, latch | control board, circulation pump |
| Stove / oven | $150 to $450 | element, igniter, sensor | control board |
| Microwave (built-in) | $130 to $300 | turntable, door switch | magnetron, board |
What moves the price
- The part. A drain pump or heating element is inexpensive; a compressor, control board or tub bearing is not. The diagnosis tells you which, which is why the service call exists.
- Parts availability. Common brands (Whirlpool, Maytag, GE, Samsung, LG) usually finish same-day. A rare part on an older or premium unit may need a short return trip.
- Gas vs electric. Gas repairs (dryer igniter, oven igniter, burner) are priced similarly but require a tech comfortable with gas.
Repair or replace: the money rule
The rule most techs use: if the repair costs more than half the price of a comparable new unit, and the appliance is past its typical lifespan, replace it. Typical lifespans:
- Refrigerators: 10 to 13 years
- Washers and dryers: 8 to 12 years
- Dishwashers: 8 to 10 years
- Ranges and ovens: 13 to 15 years
- Microwaves: 7 to 9 years (countertop units usually not worth repairing)
Because we repair appliances and do not sell new ones, we have no reason to push you either way. We give you the number and the honest call, and plenty of the time that means telling you not to spend the money.
Ways to keep the bill down
- Describe the symptom precisely when you book (warm but running, no spin, no heat, error code). It tightens the diagnosis and sometimes lets us bring the right part on the first trip.
- Do the free checks first, listed on each appliance page, like cleaning a dishwasher filter or checking a dryer vent. Sometimes there is no repair needed at all.
- Bundle it. If two appliances are acting up, one service call covers the trip.
Frequently asked questions
How much does appliance repair cost in Winnipeg?
Most repairs land between $150 and $450 in parts and labour, plus a diagnostic service call of roughly $90 to $130 that is credited toward the repair when you proceed. Fridges and control-board repairs sit at the higher end.
Is the service call fee credited if I do the repair?
Yes. The diagnostic fee is applied to the repair total when you approve the work, so you are not charged twice.
Will I know the price before you start?
Yes. You get a firm total after the diagnosis and you approve it before any repair work begins. No surprises on the final bill.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace?
If the repair is under half the cost of a comparable new unit and the appliance is within its normal lifespan, repair. Past that, replace. We give you that comparison for free before you decide.
Do you charge more for weekends or same-day?
Any premium for after-hours or emergency service is told to you up front when you book, never added silently.
